The Caribbean Speleological Society (CARIBSS)

is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting caves. It is currently headquartered on the island of Bonaire, a special municipality of the Netherlands, with the goal of expanding to other Caribbean islands in the future.

CARIBSS was founded in 2016 by three friends who were united by their passion for cave exploration. Today, the work of CARIBSS focuses on four crucial areas: education, nature conservation, exploration, and cultural heritage.

You can play a vital role in supporting CARIBSS. Whether by donating, volunteering your time, or joining the board, your involvement helps protect Caribbean caves and their unique ecosystems. Together, we can make a lasting impact.

The Bonaire Caves and Karst Nature Reserve project

The Bonaire Caves and Karst Nature Reserve project, funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality, is dedicated to protecting Bonaire’s unique caves, ecosystems, and cultural heritage. CARIBSS plays a key role in this initiative through research, sustainable management, and community engagement efforts.

When visiting the caves on Bonaire, it’s important to always go with a certified guide. This not only helps protect the caves but also ensures your safety. By following the recommended guidelines, you can enjoy the experience while minimizing impact on these fragile ecosystems.
